Located in the San Fernando Valley in the northwestern region of Los Angeles County, the city of San Fernando was named for the Mission San Fernando Rey de Espana located nearby. As of 2010, the total population amounted to 23,645. The city became the valley's first organized community in 1874 after experiencing a brief gold rush during the 1840s, and was incorporated as a city in 1911. San Fernando is currently undergoing a series of planned development projects that began in late 2004, one of which is the Ride the Trolley program that links the city's commercial and residential areas while charging a small 25 cents per ride fare. There are currently no Skilled Nursing Facilities located in San Fernando.
There are two prevalent issues that the elderly are often at higher risk for in a nursing home environment: dehydration and malnutrition. Dehydration, which comes from an excessive loss of body fluid, is often an issue in nursing facilities where the residents suffer from disabilities that impede their ability to drink or eat without the assistance of a helper. Malnutrition also is often a direct effect of a nursing home's lack of individualized care and inadequate staff. Section 483.30 of the Electronic Code of Federal Regulations states that a nursing home must be able to give adequate care and support to all of their residents. Both dehydration and malnutrition share a number of similar symptoms that could help you to determine if your loved ones are suffering, some of which include very dry/scaly mouth and skin, dizziness, and disorientation, to name a few. Both also can lead to many concurring health problems which could result in immobility, falls, and death.
If you believe that any of your loved ones residing in a nursing facility might have suffered through dehydration or malnutrition due to a lack of adequately trained staff, or if they have suffered any other kinds of abuse, please contact us for a free consultation.
