Commerce, California
Welcome to the Commerce website for the Yeroushalmi Law. We are a group of Los Angeles attorneys who specialize in nursing home neglect and elder abuse. In addition to being informational, this website has also been created to emphasize the importance of taking legal action if you or your loved one has been harmed in any way by a skilled nursing facility. Here at Yeroushalmi Law, we have accepted it as our duty to fight against the egregious neglect that occurs on a daily basis in nursing homes all throughout California and to do everything in our power to end the suffering of the elderly community.
Commerce--usually referred to as the "City of Commerce" to distinguish it from the common noun--has a fascinating modern history. In the 19th century, the area was part of Antonio Maria Lugo's Rancho San Antonio. It began to change to an industrial area in 1887, when the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railway built its main line directly through the city. By the 1920s, many factories had been constructed. After World War II, town leaders came up with the name "Commerce" because they though it would act as an encouragement for the city to engage in more commerce. The city of Commerce was incorporated into Los Angeles County in 1960, and recently celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2010. At that time, the population was 12,823, according to the census. Although Commerce has no skilled nursing facilities, you can search this website for one convenient to you.
At the Yeroushalmi Law, we know how stressful the process of choosing a long term healthcare center for yourself or a loved can be. Regardless of how much time and effort you put into finding the ideal care facility, there still remains a high possibility that the nursing home is in violation of certain Patients' Rights, especially those that outline issues of adequate staffing. Although the legal minimum for nursing hours per patient per day is 3.2 hours, based on our extensive experience, we have found that most facilities fail to meet this requirement. The direct consequences of understaffing are serious, and include the development of pressure ulcers, infections, falls, malnutrition and dehydration. If you have suffered from any of these, you are most likely a victim of nursing home neglect.
However, some difficulties arise in distinguishing between neglect and negligence. Usually, the skilled nursing facility will argue that the injury was a result of negligence, which claims that although nurses were reckless in their care of your loved one, they did not have any malicious intent to harm him or her. Although it is usually more difficult to prove cases of neglect, such cases usually warrant larger claims for injury. Nevertheless, our team of specialists will dedicate ourselves to proving that the facility was completely aware of the dangerous consequences of their decisions and that your loved one was, in fact, a victim of egregious neglect, rather than simply just negligence.
Using similarly strategic tactics, our law firm is prepared to provide you with top-notch legal services. Furthermore, we are passionate about what we do, which motivates us to fight even more relentlessly for your loved one's rights.
