Duarte, California
Welcome to Yeroushalmi Law’s website for Duarte, California. As Los Angeles nursing home neglect attorneys, we have created this website to raise awareness of the elder abuse that is unfortunately present in many California nursing homes, board & cares, assisted living facilities, and skilled nursing facilities today.
The city of Duarte, named after its founder, ranchero Andrés Avelino Duarte, is noted for being located on the historic U.S. Route 66, which takes the name of Huntington Drive as it runs through the middle of the city. Every year in Duarte, a “Salute to Route 66” parade takes place on the third weekend in September. The city is also a center for medical institutions. In 1928, the Jewish Consumptive Relief Association established a tuberculosis sanitarium that today has become the City of Hope National Medical Center, a leader in fighting cancer and other serious diseases. Then, in 1930, the Carmelite Sisters of the Most Sacred Heart of Los Angeles, a religious organization of nuns, opened the Santa Teresita Medical Center. As of 2021, the city’s population was 21,245. Duarte is home to 5 skilled nursing facilities.
At Yeroushalmi Law, we specialize in elder abuse law, specifically handling nursing home negligence cases. We believe that each and every human being is entitled to the highest standard of professional care while in residence at a skilled nursing facility or assisted living facility. Unfortunately, there are times when nursing home staff, including doctors and nurses, are responsible for the suffering, neglect, and even wrongful deaths experienced by their patients. All too often, careless staffing errors are directly responsible for the deaths of nursing home residents. These errors are more likely to occur when facilities are understaffed, because nurses are forced to compensate for the lack of staff by either having more responsibilities than they can successfully handle or having to work extended hours, which leads to exhaustion, fatigue, and potential resentment towards innocent patients. Coupled with the fact that Certified Nursing Assistants and Licensed Vocational and Practical Nurses are often paid less than a living wage, it becomes clear that nursing facilities in California are often organized and structured in ways that facilitate the harm of their elderly residents through neglect and abuse.
Under the circumstances that a skilled nursing facility is directly responsible for a loved one's death, you are able to make a wrongful death claim within the allotted time frame provided by the statute of limitations. If you believe your loved one's death may have been the fault of nursing home staff, please contact the attorneys at Yeroushalmi Law immediately. It is important to reach out to legal counsel quickly after abuse, neglect, or wrongful death has occurred, because the statute of limitations cannot be stayed even if the judge is sympathetic to the Plaintiff’s predicament. Additionally, each cause of action is subject to its own rules regarding the statute of limitations, and without the legal analysis of an experienced attorney, it can be difficult to determine with certainty how much time is left before the statute of limitations runs out. Time is of the essence when dealing with legal matters, so the sooner you bring your case before an experienced attorney, the more likely you can avoid issues related to the statute of limitations.
Please also contact the attorneys at Yeroushalmi Law if you or your loved one has experienced neglect that has led to bed sores, a serious fall, or dangerous infections such as MRSA, scabies, or C. difficile. All of these can be signs of elder abuse and/or neglect. We offer free consultations and are available to serve and support clients throughout the State of California, including in Duarte.
