Welcome to the City of Maricopa elder abuse and neglect website for the Los Angeles Nursing Home Abuse Lawyer, Ben Yerouhsalmi. Mr. Yeroushalmi and his team of experienced elder law attorneys and experts are aware of the dangers that older adults face in long-term care facilities. As strong advocates for the elderly and those who have been victims of abuse or neglect in a nursing home or assisted living facility, the attorneys at the Law Offices of Ben Yeroushalmi want the people of Maricopa to be knowledgeable of the risk factors and important aspects to look out for when choosing a long-term care facility for a loved one.
The City of Maricopa was incorporated into Kern County, California in 1911. The city got its name from the Maricopa Indians, who were a tribe belonging to the River Yuman group. According to the 2010 United States Census, Maricopa had a population of 1,154. The city is a small, quiet town located beside the foothills of the San Joaquin Valley and rests in the junction between the State Route Highways 33 and 166. Popularly known as the “Gateway to the Sea”, Maricopa prospered when a vital oil well was found in the Midway-Sunset Oil Field. This field was almost 20 miles, stretching from the east of Maricopa and to the south of McKittrick—Maricopa’s neighboring city.
Maricopa experienced great fortune when a historical oil well was discovered in the 1900’s. Named the “Lakeview Gusher”, this oil well provided approximately 90,000 barrels of oil every day for 544 days, which is the longest-enduring and most fruitful oil gusher recorded in the history of the United States. Although the Lakeview Gusher no longer produces as much oil, the Midway-Sunset Oil Field is still California’s biggest oil field and the third biggest oil field in the nation.
According to the City of Maricopa’s main website, the town continues to strive to protect the abundance of its history and to broaden the chances of discovering “yet another era of uncapped possibilities.”
Although there are no nursing home residences or assisted living facilities located in Maricopa, there are 14 assisted living facilities and 10 skilled nursing facilities located in the nearby city, Bakersfield, to serve the older adult community.
Elder abuse and neglect attorney Ben Yeroushalmi is aware that finding the right long-term care facility for your loved one can be a stressful and often worrisome task. Many nursing homes and assisted living facilities cannot always guarantee consistent, high quality care due to a variety of factors such as low staffing levels and insufficient number of adequately trained and educated staff. Moreover, due to many older adult residents needing to take multiple medications on a daily basis, medication errors are a common occurrence in these types of facilities. Older adult residents can also be highly vulnerable to infections such as pressure ulcers and urinary tract infections.
