Citrus Heights is a city in Sacramento County that neighbors Sacramento and Roseville. It was first incorporated in 1997, making it the fifth city in Sacramento County. The city’s population is currently about 84,345, 13% of which are 65 years or older. Citrus Heights has a booming retail and service sector. The city is also a great place for families. As of now, Citrus Heights has ten elementary schools, one middle school, and two high schools. The family oriented city has neighborhood associations, composed of volunteers, that work towards building stronger communities throughout the city. As of now, there is one nursing home and two assisted living facilities in Citrus Heights.

One of the biggest issues for elderly at long term care facilities are falls and the injuries that accompany them. Often, many elderly patients at these facilities are considered a “fall risk”. Due to this, long-term care facilities are responsible for having the appropriate policies and preventative measures to decrease the fall risk of these residents. Preventative measures such as side rails, bed padding, bed alarms, and restraints are a handful of the interventions that could be used to protect older residents who are susceptible to falls.

Aside from physical preventive tools, there are other ways to ensure residents safety in terms of fall risk. Preventative programs that adequately train staff of these long-term care facilities on the needs of their residents are a powerful tool in reducing the number of falls that occur. By training care staff to be alert and aware of patient’s conditions and medications, they can distinguish those who are at a higher fall risk and provide the care that they require. Along the same lines, having sufficient staff is also a way in which nursing homes and assisted living facilities can prevent falls from occurring. Frequently, falls occur because residents are left unattended in their beds or wheelchairs. Having sufficient staff to keep a watchful eye on residents whose conditions leave them at an increased risk of falls is one of the strongest preventative measures. When a facility is understaffed, residents who require additional care are left alone longer than they should be and they suffer because of it. Many times, falls result in broken hips or bones that could create greater complications in patients with preexisting conditions.

Ben was wonderful. He took our case when no one else was interested or wanted way to much money. We would highly recommend Ben because he really listens and takes your situation into consideration. We settled our case and we were only unhappy with one thing and that was the confidentiality clause but that was not Ben's fault it came with the deal. June
