Yeroushalmi Law is solely dedicated to cases of Elder Abuse and Nursing Home Neglect. We believe that each and every person has a right to be treated with dignity and respect by licensed professionals while inhabiting a skilled nursing facility or an assisted living facility. Section 483.25(3)(c) of Title 42 in the Code of Federal Regulations requires that nursing home facilities make sure its residents do not develop pressure ulcers, also known as bed sores, unless they are unavoidable. Furthermore, any resident who develops pressure ulcers must receive treatment and the necessary services to promote healing and prevent new sores or infections from developing. Unfortunately, these standards are not always kept by facilities that face chronic understaffing.
Substantial research has shown that pressure ulcers not only incur physical discomfort and pain but also cause psychological and social problems as well. A study published in the journal Wounds found that pressure ulcers increased depressive mood and feelings of pessimism, which could significantly affect a patient’s nutritional status and ability to heal. As they are usually preventable, it is crucial that nursing home staff do everything they can to protect their patients from these detrimental wounds.
